Swedish tax deadlines 2026: the small-business calendar

Every 2026 filing date a Swedish sole trader needs: Inkomstdeklaration 1 on 4 May, NE-bilaga with it, moms periods, anstånd rules. Sourced from Skatteverket.

Swedish filing deadlines are simple once you see the whole year on one page. This is that page for a sole trader (enskild firma), with the source for every date. It is not tax advice; confirm current rules on skatteverket.se before filing.

The one that matters most: 4 May 2026

The main income tax return for individuals and sole traders, Inkomstdeklaration 1, is due 4 May 2026. If you run an enskild firma, your business result goes into that return on the NE-bilaga attachment. Skatteverket’s own page for enskild näringsverksamhet states the date plainly: “Sista dagen för att deklarera är den 4 maj 2026.”

  • 4 May 2026: last day to file Inkomstdeklaration 1 (electronically)
  • 1 June 2026: last day if you have anstånd (extension). You get anstånd by asking Skatteverket in advance; do not assume it is automatic.
  • Paper forms have earlier dates (typically mid-April); e-filing is the default route and the later deadline.

Moms (VAT) during the year

Moms deadlines depend on your reporting period, which Skatteverket assigns based on your turnover:

  • Quarterly (most small firms start here): due on the 12th of the second month after each quarter ends. Q4 2025 moms was due 12 February 2026; Q1 2026 on 12 May 2026; Q2 on 12 August 2026; Q3 on 12 November 2026.
  • Monthly: the 12th of the following month.
  • Annual: possible once turnover is low enough; the return follows the income year.

Register your reporting period when you register for moms. Changing it later requires applying to Skatteverket.

Other dates worth having in the calendar

  • Preliminary income tax (preliminär skatt): paid on the schedule Skatteverket issues (usually 12 payments per year). If your profit changes a lot, apply for adjustment rather than waiting for the final statement.
  • Employer contributions (arbetsgivaravgifter): only relevant if you hire; due with the monthly/periodic reporting.
  • Bookkeeping closure: close the books before filing. The one-pool bookkeeping method for a solo digital firm exists precisely so that this week is not painful.

The May checklist for an enskild firma

  1. Close the books for the income year (revenue, costs, result).
  2. Fill in NE-bilaga: revenue, expenses, result, and any special lines that apply (check the current NE-bilaga instructions; the form number changes between years).
  3. File Inkomstdeklaration 1 with the NE attachment, electronically via Skatteverket’s e-service or file transfer.
  4. Note the besked om slutlig skatt (final tax statement) when it arrives, and check the preliminary schedule it implies.
